Mancini Beverage: Age-Gated, Fast, and Client-Editable

An alcohol distributor needed a site that looked established, legally gated every visitor by age, and their own team could update without a developer. Here's how I built it.

Mancini Beverage distributes alcohol, and that shaped the whole project. Their new site had three non-negotiables from day one: it had to look like the established brand they are, legally gate every visitor by age, and be something their own team could update without calling a developer. I built it as a custom WordPress site at the agency where I work, and it delivers all three: fast, compliant, and self-maintainable.

The age-gate problem

Any site representing alcohol needs an age-verification gate before a visitor can enter. Most sites reach for a third-party plugin, which means one more dependency to maintain and one more thing that can break.

Instead, I built a custom age-verification system that intercepts traffic before the site loads and stores the result in session — clean, simple, and nothing for the client to configure. It just works, and there's no plugin to keep updated.

Built to be edited, not babysat

The bigger requirement was a site the client's team could actually run on their own. A site that needs a developer for every copy change is a site that slowly goes stale — and an ongoing bill the client didn't want.

That's why I built it in Bricks Builder. It's a visual editor, so non-technical staff can update content, swap images, and adjust pages without touching code or waiting on me. Ownership stays with the client, where it belongs.

Why Bricks, under the hood

If you've worked in WordPress long enough, you've been burned by a page builder. Divi drops inline styles everywhere. Beaver Builder, as I wrote about in the ZGM case study, layers complexity until the site turns fragile. Elementor is bloated.

Bricks is different where it counts: it generates semantic HTML and clean CSS — no inline-style soup, no shortcode dependencies, no mystery markup. That's why the visual-editing convenience doesn't come at the cost of a fast, stable site. The client gets an easy editor; the site stays quick and maintainable.

The right tool for the job

Not every project needs a headless architecture and a custom migration pipeline. Headless Next.js is powerful, but it adds complexity, requires a developer to maintain, and costs more up front. For a site where the client wants to manage their own content and the scope doesn't warrant a decoupled build, a well-built WordPress site with Bricks is the better answer.

Mancini Beverage is live, fast, legally compliant, and easy for the client to maintain — without a developer on retainer. That was the goal from the start.
